Elizabeth I. Pitts, RDH, MS received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Howard University. She continued her education at the University of Michigan where she received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Dental Hygiene. Her extensive dental career spans public, private, education, and research sectors. Her passion for community dentistry and increasing minority representation within the dental field is evident in her academic achievements, volunteerism, and participation in a variety of professional organizations. She originates from Detroit, MI and currently resides in Southfield, MI with her husband, son, and step-daughters.

Samantha Mishler, RDH, MS completed her BSDH in 2014 and her MSDH in 2016 both at the University of Michigan. She has worked in private practice and dental hygiene education since graduation. When not working in dental hygiene Samantha enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and chocolate lab.

Valerie Nieto, RDH, MS is an active member of the Grand Shores DHA Component of the MDHA. Valerie is a full-time clinical lecturer at the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry. She also serves as the Veterans’ Oral Health Specialist for the American Institute of Dental Public Health, and as Chair-Elect of the ADEA Sig for Graduate Dental Hygiene Education Programs.

Heather Beavers is the Early Childhood Oral Health Specialist with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. She had held has several leadership positions within the national, state and local components of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association including ADHA Membership Council Chair, ADHA Delegate and MDHA Sergeant-At-Arms. Heather currently serves on the ADHA Institute for Oral Health Community Service Grant Review Committee and is a previous recipient of the ADHA/Esther Wilkins Future Leader Award, MDHA Springboard Award and the CRDH Dental Hygienist of the Year Award. She has a Master’s in Management from Davenport University.

Joyce has been the Association Administrator for the MDHA for 20 years. Needless, to say she knows all things MDHA like the back of her hand and is the go to person for any questions related to the MDHA. She enjoys coming together with hygienists all across the state during Board Meetings, House of Delegates and during CE events. Outside of the MDHA, she loves bike riding and working out and loves traveling especially to see her grandchildren and to attend sporting events.
