the Advisor[PDF]

This flyer was mailed in February to over 8200 hygienists in Michigan and unfortunately we know of only a handful that received it. The USPS has no explanation for us and we've requested a refund, but have not yet been satisfied. We are now sending this out to our e-membership list. We would ask if you would, kindly forward to any hygienists that you may know, along with an encouragement to sign up for MDHA free e-membership!
Thanks,

Medicaid Reimbursement for the Dental Hygienist
Beginning Jan 1, 2011, the dental hygienist can enroll as rendering/servicing providers for the Medicaid program. This is through the Michigan Dept of Community Health (MDCH) and called CHAMPS, (community health automated Medicaid processing system). You need a sponsoring DDS with a Medicaid license and the RDH needs a type 1 NPI (national provider identifier) number to enroll, if this link doesn't work, type in the search area www.nppes.cms.hhs.gov.
All information regarding this is on the MDCH Website

Access to Oral Health Care Workgroup
Over the last year a group of health care professionals has been meeting, hosted by the Michigan Dental Association in a meeting chaired by Dr. Norm Palm and moderated by Public Sector Consultants. During the meetings many ideas were shared. Once on the table, they were then voted upon and either stayed or were eliminated based upon the majority rule in descending order. Eventually several ideas remained as those most agreed upon. The Michigan Dental Hygienists were asked to be a part of this group and were pleased to have an opportunity to bring forward the collaborative practice model initiated by PA 161, 2005 in the mix and the RDH as an important part of the solution.
Perhaps the most important accomplishment of the group was in the gathering of many oral health professionals in one place to hear one another's recommendations.
We applaud the MDA's efforts in accomplishing a collegial event; one that is on-going.
