HHS and EPA announce new scientific assessments and actions on fluoride
Thu, 06 Jan 2011
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
today are announcing important steps to ensure that standards and guidelines on fluoride in drinking water continue
to protect the American people while promoting good dental health, especially in children. HHS is proposing that the
recommended level of fluoride in drinking water can be set at the lowest end of the current optimal range to prevent
tooth decay, and EPA is initiating review of the maximum amount of fluoride allowed in drinking water.

Oral Health America (OHA) has launched a new site, ToothWisdom.org, a first-of-its-kind website focusing on older adults
and oral health. The site connects older adults and their caregivers to local care and education about the oral health
issues they face, the importance of continuing prevention as we age, and the overall impact of oral health on overall health.
In conjunction with the site, OHA is releasing A State of Decay, a report that analyzes the variables impacting older adult
oral health. ADHA is a key partner OHA's efforts to address the issues facing older adults and oral health through Tooth
Wisdom and A State of Decay and we encourage everyone to spread the word about these important resources.
