Message from MDHA President 2020

Hello MDHA Members,

Allow me to begin by thanking all of you. I feel honored to serve the profession I love and to do so surrounded by such a passionate and dedicated team. I plan to show my gratitude to you all by working diligently to grow and guide our association. To echo my speech at the House of Delegates, as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times, my primary focus this upcoming year will be increasing our membership through engagement and collaboration.

Your MDHA is already hard at work developing our four year strategic plan that lays the framework needed to strengthen and maintain our association. We are also pushing forward with the task of building our councils so we have the support we need to achieve these goals. By the time you read this, we will, hopefully, have set council meeting dates for the year, and I encourage anyone with an interest in getting involved to attend a meeting. Your insight and talents can help bring new ideas and a breath of fresh air. Your commitment can be as much or as little as you
decide, and it all begins by just sending an email and attending one meeting. Legislatively, we drafted a support letter for the Protection of Youth from Nicotine Product Addiction rule set, and plans for our Legislative Luncheon are underway. We have achieved many goals with Acuitas, our lobbying firm, and will continue to work towards goals like pre-k dental assessment, limited prescriptive rights, and advocating for our profession at the legislative level. The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) has announced that the annual session, originally scheduled for summer 2020 in Phoenix, AZ, has been moved to the virtual platform again. While many of us will miss connecting with our colleagues from across the nation, I think we can all understand the need to stay safe and healthy at this time. The ADHA is also hosting its first virtual Dental Hygiene Leadership Summit on January 15th and 16th, 2021. This is open to all members and non-members and is geared towards building leadership skills. This is a great opportunity for any new or aspiring leaders to gain the necessary skills to support them in their aspirations.

Thank you, Everyone, for the continued support! I look forward to an incredibly busy and productive year.
